What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is an analog of delta-9 THC, meaning they’re similar in chemical structure but differ slightly in effect. It is psychoactive, producing a high that’s about half as potent as delta-9 THC.

It’s only found in cannabis naturally in extremely tiny amounts, so it is made for commercial use in labs through a process that converts hemp-derived CBD into other cannabinoids such as delta-8.

Why do people like delta-8 vapes?

Mainly because it’s a (mostly) legal, convenient, and discreet way to get high. Many people enjoy the fact that it’s not as strong as marijuana, finding that it makes them less likely to be paranoid, or lose productivity, while still providing a psychoactive experience. Others cite feelings of relaxation, euphoria, and relief.

Is Delta-8 Legal?

Under the farm bill of 2018, hemp-derived delta-8 THC is considered legal at a federal level because it is not derived from marijuana. However, many states have adopted laws that disagree with this.

These are the states where possession of delta-8 THC is currently deemed illegal at the state level:

  • Alaska
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Montana
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Utah

If you get caught with delta-8 products in any of these states, you could be charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance.

Do delta-8 carts get you high?

Yes. Delta-8 THC is psychoactive, so it can produce a high. It’s estimated that d8 carts are around 50% as potent as marijuana carts, producing similar effects. Users that have built a strong tolerance to Delta-9 THC may not experience much of a high, unless consumed in larger doses.

Are delta-8 vapes safe?

Delta-8 carts are generally considered safe, however they are an under researched, mostly unregulated product so there is an inherent risk involved in using them.

For this reason, it’s important to buy from a vendor that has third party lab tests for potency, heavy metals, pesticides, and residual solvents to ensure you’re getting as safe and pure of a product as possible.

Many of the risks related to consumption of any form of THC have to do with overconsumption, so one of the best ways to reduce risk is to limit your dosing.

Are there any side-effects from delta-8 vapes?

Delta-8 has similar side-effects as delta-9, such as:

  • Red eyes
  • Dry mouth
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Trouble with coordination
  • Slowed reaction times
  • Anxiety
  • Memory loss
